Attorney Support

Supporting Attorneys: managing affairs with confidence

Acting as an Attorney under a Power of Attorney carries significant legal responsibilities – which can potentially continue for many years. With the legal responsibilities comes the day-to-day obligations – including administrative and compliance obligations. DLS Private Office supports Attorneys in managing financial, property and personal matters.

How DLS Private Office can help

  • Redirection of mail
  • Payment of regular living expenses, care costs and medical bills
  • Payment of council rates, land tax, insurance and other bills related to a property
  • Liaison with aged care consultants and providers
  • Liaison with hospitals and healthcare professionals
  • Liaison with carers and payment of carers
  • Liaison with builders and other tradesmen for property maintenance and repairs
  • Management of bank accounts and investments
  • Liaison with accountants for tax compliance
  • Property leasing, maintenance and management
  • Coordination with financial and legal advisors
  • Secure custody of important documents
  • Monitoring of deadlines and compliance obligations

This allows Attorneys to focus on making major life decisions for loved ones without being overwhelmed by paperwork and the administrative burdens that accompany the role.

Ongoing support for Attorneys

A Power of Attorney may be activated at any point and once activated, may continue for many years.

DLS Private Office provides the Attorney with support for as long as required. As and when any legal matter arises, David Landa Stewart Lawyers (or another firm) can be engaged. As and when any property matters arise, DLS Property Solutions can also be engaged. If any other external advisors are required (such as accountants or investment managers), they can also be engaged. We offer a truly integrated service as and when required.

Nomination Flexibility

Clients may nominate:

  • A DLS lawyer as Attorney, supported by DLS Private Office; or
  • A trusted family member, with DLS Private Office available behind the scenes to assist as and when required.

Elder care

A mother nominated her son as her Attorney. She suffered a stroke and now requires immediate care and ongoing assistance with her affairs.

The son manages his mother’s affairs as her Attorney but retains DLS Private Office to assist with the administrative burden

Overseas client needing local Attorney

An overseas client engages a lawyer at David Landa Stewart to assist with his affairs in Australia — he has a number of properties in Sydney and can make strategic decisions from afar but needs someone “on the ground” to assist.
He signs a Power of Attorney – appointing the lawyer as his Attorney and authorising them to manage financial affairs on his behalf. He also engages DLS
Private Office to provide local, day-to-day support as and when required.
